About the artwork

Visualising the Culture of Lesser-known Regions and Everyday Life in the Community
Driven by concerns regarding the fragility of communication and the disjunction between self-perception and external perceptions, the artist engages in interviews with individuals affiliated with the installation site as well as local residents. Drawing from the insights garnered, the artist crafts installations utilizing lightboxes, a production style that has become increasingly recognized in recent years. For this iteration of ETAT, the focus is on the project “Rei House,” which was first unveiled in 2009 and concluded in 2023. The artist presents the work in Kamikawate village, capturing the cultural history rooted in this area, the faint memories lingering within the building itself, and the lives of the locals. Through this artwork, the artist weaves and presents their perspective on these elements.
