Daichi no tetsudai

Helping the people of Echigo-Tsumari and Tohoku any way we can.

The Kohebi have been helping people in Tsunan and Matsunoyama villages affected by the North Nagano earthquake, and those in Ishinomaki affected by the Great Eastern Earthquake.

Looking for those who…..

  • Want to be of help to locals you met in Echigo-Tsumari.
  • Are confident in their physical strength and can provide heavy labor.
  • Are experienced farmers or are interested in farming.
  • Like cleaning and tidying up!

What we do?

We visit the locals in villages in Echigo-Tsumari or work with volunteer groups based in Ishinomaki and find out what is needed.

Kohebi participate in the Michibushin (community cleaning activity) and local festivals, help clean local people’s homes, and try to be of help in rice production and weeding grass. Kohebi are supposed to be “helping the locals” but often find themselves learning from the locals or being served tea and treats. After being touched by the generosity and resilience of the locals, Kohebi often resolve to stay in touch and return frequently.
