An Outline of East Asia Art Village

■ Purpose

1. Promoting region
This region is placed in middle of river terrace at Shinano River which is called the largest in Japan, it is village group where is heavy snow and has been losing population. During this 10 years, the village has come energy and united by acceptance visitor and making art works with CaiGuo Qiang(China), Kim Koohan(Korea),Caoimhghin O'Fraithile(Ireland) who are artists join Echigo- Tsumari Art Triennial.
Since we always expand the energy come between artworks and village, aim to activation and send this region as "Northeast Asia Art Village".

2. Cultural exchange and network of East Asia Art Village
We try to construct the networks and advance the exchange of culture and art, between Echigo-Tsumari and Northeast Aria Country at university or area.
We aim to the function as stronghold and galley at art market in Aria among cooperating with Niigata-City.

3. Training Artist
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, and Asian spirit cherish culture deep-rooted in the local community, relation to nature and earth.Modern society has been running worldwide equation of economy action and a way of thinking today. It has some problems about environment and economy. We aim to train an artist who can connect to nature and people, region and people, people and people through cooperation transcended region, generation and genre.
It is important to nurse relationship feels five senses, body and emotion, to establish wealthy life in traditional work of region and solid village.

Artist in Residence Program

Along with the MOCA prize the East Asia Art Village will launch its artists in residence program.
The program will take place in the Uwano Community Hall, to be renovated into a residence building.
Currently only the construction of the gallery has been completed.
The program aims to provide opportunities to young artists from East Asian countries and to encourage an exchange between artists and local residents.
