A solo exhibition of Yutaka SONE
Based in Los Angels but maintaining his ateliers in Mexico and the People’s Republic of China, Yutaka Sone is currently enjoying great attention internationally. Since the moment his eyes “were captured by the eyes of a crystal of snow” he has been creating sculptures in order to fix the beauty of the momentary dazzle of snowflakes. This is an exhibition which his artworks represent snow of Echigo-Tsumari – a place known for heavy snowfall.

Snowflakes, a particular form of water ice, form in clouds. Temperature, air currents and humidity influence shape and size and the shape of snowflakes that falls in Echigo-Tsumari is not in a perfect hexagonal due to warmer temperature and humidity. This exhibition consists of drawings inspired by such snow and snowflake sculptures made of crystal representing characteristics of snowflakes that melt when touched by warm hands.
In Echigo-Tsumari where snowfall is intense, people can become oblivious to the beauty and brilliance of snow. His artworks created from the pure admiration of snow will help us rediscover of the magic of snow.
