Fram Kitagawa, General Director of ETAT and Mr Sekiguchi, mayor of Tokamachi-city visited Mr Yoneyama, governor of Niigata on 19 February 2018 and asked for co-operation with promotion of the festival within and beyond Niigata prefecture.
Kitagawa gave a briefing about the history of the festival, projects inbetween the festival years, and the summary of the 7th festival to be held in summer this year. In addition, he also introduced the increasing interest in the festival from abroad, developing relations to the central government institutions and agencies and how the festival had been featured in different media including school text books. He also suggested to make better use of Niigata Airport in response to increasing visitors from countries in Asia.
Mr Sekiguchi, the mayor of Tokamachi-city also joined the conversation exploring possibilities of incorporating the festival into Niigata prefecture's in-bound strategy and co-operation in promotion of the festival both within and beyond Niigata prefecture. The meeting seemed to have helped the governor recognise the festival as one of the key activities for promoting Niigata broadly.
