Chiharu Shiota has been presenting the largest solo show in Japan at Mori Art Museum from 20 June 2019. The special exhibition features 25-year of her journey as an artist, represented by large-scale installations, 3D works, video works featuring performances, photographs, drawing and artworks and documents relating to theatre productions. It shows the consistent theme that the artist has pursued throughout her creation, "presence in absence". "House Memory" in Echigo-Tsumari was created by Shiota for ETAT2009 in an old minka house - where you will be able to feel this theme. We are pleased to inform that this artwork will be open to the official tour participants this summer. Experience, feel and wonder about life journey as you immerse yourself in the exhibition and the artwork.

"Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles" at Mori Art Museum
The Largest and Most Comprehensive Exhibition Ever, Illuminating The Artist’s Entire Oeuvre. Based in Berlin Shiota is known for her performances and installations expressing something intangible such as memories, anxiety, dreams and silences. Drawing on personal experiences, her artworks, however, question universal concepts such as identity, boundary and existence thus attract wide audience across the globe. Overwhelming installations of black or red threads spreading out in given spaces have become one of the iconic masterpieces by the artist. The subtitle of the exhibition "The Soul Trembles" attempts to convey the artist's message, a desire to communicate one's "feeling" which can't be described in words. The exhibition showing the journey that the artist has gone through as she explores the overarching theme, "presence in absence" would remind you of the meaning of living, the journey of life and subtleties of souls.
Duration: Thur 20 June - Sunday 27 October 2019
