Yukihisa Isobe Memorial Echigo Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum, a museum for storing artworks while exhibiting some is presenting a solo show, Compass of Time, featuring artworks by Tatsuo Kawaguchi.
As one of the most prominent contemporary artists, Kawaguchi has created conceptual artworks representing relations between materials including metals (iron, copper, lead), energy (light and heat) and fossils, seeds of plants and human and time.
He has participated in ETAT since the first its first iteration in 2000 and presented artworks highlighting relations between local people in Echigo-Tsumari and nature, life, past, and future. This special exhibition presents a vast range of artworks from his early career to the most recent ones as well as re-exhibition of artworks from ETAT2003 at Matsudai Nohbutai.
An artwork enclosed seeds embracing the energy of life, seeds which were grown out of metal, a box holding dried sunflowers as well as artworks revealing relations between objects and its surroundings brought alternative life and energy to the Soko museum.
Opening reception was held on Saturday 27 July and floor talk between Kawaguchi and Masanori Ichikawa was held. The exhibition will be open during Echigo-Tsumari Art Field 2019 Summer and Autumn.
