The seasonal program, “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field 2020 Summer” running from 23 July presents special exhibitions and events under the overarching theme, “a playful summer holiday for everyone”. While the popular summer program with artworks you can play in water, “Splish-Splash Fair” returns to KINARE, artists will serve unique and delicious take-away food at “Satoyama Food Court” at Matsudai Nohbutai. Don’t forget to grab special summer ticket and join a stamp-rally as you explore artworks outdoor in the region. So – where would you like to begin your summer holiday?

(1) "Splish-Splash Fair"

Enjoy a very summary exhibition including experiencing SUP in the pond in the courtyard and artwork with flowing water in the corridor. Don’t forget to taste frozen icecream if your visit coincides with Saturdays and Sundays.

(2) "Satoyama Food Court"

A very unique and fun – and yet allowing you to keep “social distancing” food court will welcome you at Matsudai Nohbutai. In addition to new menu at Echigo-Matsudai Satoyama Shokudo, the artist TOYOFUKU Ryo presents “Kagamichushin”, an exotic food court offering take-away meals. You may also like to book “Satoyama BBQ” and enjoy eating outdoor.

"Be free as you like!!" / "The Sound of Bamboo Played by the Wind"

Special exhibition “Be free as you like‼” 
The first special exhibition for the eleventh year at Museum of Picture Book Art features MATSUMOTO Michiko. Suffered from schizophrenia in 2000, the artist has been drawing a couple of thousands “Hoppe”, a beloved pet cat who rescued her from suffering. The colourful and precise patterns drawn without draft stays in your memory once seen and every expression of the cat captured is adorable. The exhibition will enable you to appreciate MATSUMOTO’s world view and make you feel you are surrounded by the cat as you walk throughout the museum.

Special exhibition “The Sound of Bamboo Played by the Wind”
The other special exhibition taking place simultaneously welcomes MATSUMOTO Akinori who makes sound objects playing beautiful tunes using bamboo. He will make artworks on site at the museum which plays sounds as wind blows. The ever-changing shadows of the sound objects and overlapping of sounds made by chance spread like a story inside and outside of the museum.

【Artist】MATSUMOTO Akinori

In order to prevernt the spread of the COVID-19, Echigo-Tsumari Art Field will follow the necessary measures including wearing masks at each facility, checking address of visitors at the entry, providing hand sanitisers at entry and exit to the facilities, ventilating the facilities on regular basis, sterilizating the facilities and managing health and safety of staff members on duty wearing masks. Please note that the Summer program will be changed and cancelled in case the spread of the COVID-19 is confirmed.
