9:00 Start your journey from Kiyotsukyo Tunnel surrounded with autumn leaves
"Tunnel of Light" by Ma Yansong/MAD Architects (2018)
One of the must-visit places in Echigo-Tsumari, Kiyotsukyo Tunnel, was re-opened with new artworks inside and a welcoming facility at the entrance during ETAT2018. Ma Yansong and MAD Architects regarded the 750m-long tunnel as a submarine with a periscope which has been cut off from the outer world. (*The Tunnel receives many visitors during the autumn-leaves season and we recommend you to check the official twitter of ETAT or Kiyotsukyo Parking for the latest situation prior to your visit.

"For the Lots of Lost Windows" by UTSUMI Akiko (2006)
The artwork within the vicinity of the Kiyotsukyo Tunnel and SoKo Museum. The window invites visitors to re-discover the landscape of Echigo-Tsumari as they look out views from through the window and feel the wind as the curtain blows.

"POTEMKIN" by Architectural Office Casagrande & Rintala
The Finnish architect practice transformed the dump-site into a piece of art, making use of the support scheme for public utility called "pocket-park project". The artwork utilised parts of diggers and tyers dumpted as industry waste.

"Set North for Japan (74°33’2”)" by Richard Wilson
The artwork installed adjecent to Nakasato Junior High School is by Richard Wilson who moved a full-scale model of the frame of his house in London to Echigo-Tsumari by maintaining the same angle with respect to the earth. The artwork attempts to relate London and Echigo-Tsumari which are distant both physically and culturally. The large Torii gate looks as if it is part of the artwork.

"Be free as you like!!" / "The Sound of Bamboo Played by the Wind" at Museum of Picture Book Art
You will find cat, cat and cat everywhere on the ground floor of the museum featuring "Hoppe", a beloved pet cat by the artist MASTUMOTO Michiko while you can enjoy the installation of bamboo and sound by MATSUMOTO Akinori. Take a seat at the Hachi Café in the museum for coffee and sweets or vegetable curry, kid's favourite.

"The Last Class" by Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman (2006)
"The Last Class" is a masterpiece by Christian Boltanski who has expressed the absence of human by using photographs and old clothes. Boltanski used the entire closed school building which remind visitors of students and teachers who once occupied the space. The artist created a new work in 2018 "Théâtre d’ombres (Theatre of Shadows" in the upper level close to the entrance. (close at 16:00).

Katakuri House
Katakuri House is a renovation of the old wooden school building. Class rooms have been transformed into seven Japanese-style guest rooms and the school master's room has become an onsen bath. The gym and front field can be used for different events such as sports, workshop and music concerts. Visitors and guests can also enjoy the artwork "Melting Wall" (2003) by HONNMA Jun.
