Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art

It will be closed for the winter holidays from the end of November to the end of April

An elementary school in a village surrounded by mountains called Hachi was closed and transformed into a small museum by a picture book artist, Seizo Tashima. His made a story called "School never becomes empty" featuring the last three students of the school and monsters living in the closed school and the visitors can experience the story as the explore the space of walk-in picture book. Come and meet mosters living in the school including Toperatoto, moster eating laughter and Doradoraban, destorying dreams!

A space you can spend a whole day with family

Each of the former classroom has been renovated differently including "room with grass" and "room for reading picturebook". Events and workshops are taking place throughout the year and special exhibitions are held from spring to autumn.

Join fun events, concerts and festivals

The museum hosts music concert and live performance as well as workshop for family with guest performers and artists. Visitors are also welcome to join seasonal events co-organised with local people such as autumn festival, harvest festival and snow festival in winter.
