Kiyotsu Warehouse Museum was launched with the aspiration for running a museum with storage space for artists in Echigo-Tsumari.There are significant number of abandoned houses and closed school in the region and some of them have been turned into a museum or gallery in conjunction with Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Kiyotsu Warehouse Museum was renovated and launched as a museum in 2015 in the gymnasium space of a former Kiyotsukyo Elementary School and hosted an opening exhibition, “Four artists: materials and hands featuring Noriyuki Haraguchi, Shigeo Toya, Toshikatsu Endo, and Noe Aoki. The name “warehouse” was given to this renovated gymnasium space with a hope that it will become a platform where master pieces left dormant in artists’ warehouses will be presented to viewers.
