Olaf Nicolai, one of the participating artsits to Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (ETAT2018) visited the region for site inspection. An older brother of Carsten Nicolai whose artwork is one of the permanent collections at KINARE is based in Berlin, Germany. He has been pursuing his creative activities under the overarching concept, "collection".

The artist has been creating diverse range of artworks including ones which deeply relate to sound. He set up "Raster-Noton" a music label with Carsten in 1995 as well as released experimental music albums.

Olaf visited existing artworks, experienced Echigo-Tsumari culture and seemed to get an inspiration from the structure of the house in a snow country with an entrance located on the upper level of the house. A plan for artwork and site for installation are yet to be finalised and we will keep update as it elaborates towards ETAT2018.
