Fram Kitagawa received The Asahi Prize 2017

Fram Kitagawa, General Director of Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale received the Asahi Prize 2017. The Asahi Prize, established in 1929, according to its official website, is a prize to honor individuals and groups who have made outstanding accomplishments in the fields of academics and arts, and have greatly contributed to the development and progress of Japanese culture and society at large.

Fram Kitagawa who has brought contemporary art festivals across Japan including Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2000-), Setouchi Triennale (2010), Japan Alps Art Festival (2017), and Oku-Noto Triennale (2017), was awarded the prize for his achievement in revitalising regions and their cultures through art festivals staged in satoyama as well as islands.
