We are pleased to share the second issue of Australia House Newsletter featuring activities at Australia House such as residency programme and exchanges between local people and artists throughout 2017.
Australia House located in Urada district in Tokamachi-city, Niigata is a platform for exchange between Australia and Japan based upon the tie which was born from Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. After the original Australia House built in the old minka house in 2009 was collapsed in 2011, the new Australia House was built as a symbol of earthquake disaster reconstruction in 2012 designed by a Sydney based architect, Andrew Burns. Since then, many artists from Australia have visited and stayed in the Australia House and developed relationship between Australia and Japan under the support of Australian government, institutions, local people and volunteers.
We hope this newsletter featuring activities at Australia House, participating artists in the residency programme and unique local people will help you learn more about Australia House and thus deepen the relationship between Australia and Japan. As a special feature, we are pleased to share a column by previous artist and her partner.
