Born in Mokopane, South Africa in 1975.
Moshekwa Langa’s art is rooted in his native South Africa, where the cultures of white and black collide. His artworks communicate the excitements and complexities that attend the encounter of different cultures, and synthesises these phenomena for his audiences. He has presented paintings on paper or cloth consisting of objects collected from the area where these artworks are exhibited, along with hints of his African roots. In addition to his solo show, “Moshekwa Langa” at MAXXI (Museo Nazionale dale Arti del XXI Secolo) in 2005, he has exhibited at major art festivals such as La Biennale de Lyon (2011), Sao Paulo Biennale (2010), The 53rd Venice Biennale (2009), and “Africa Remix” at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2006).
