Osone Shunsuke

Graduated from the woodwork major of Musashino Art University’s Department of Industrial, Interior, and Craft Design in 2002. After completing the Graduate School of Conservation at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2004, the artist joined the Japan Art Institute and mainly worked on the restoration of national treasures and important cultural properties’ Buddhist statues. In 2015, he resigned from the Institute and moved to Nagano Prefecture to devote himself to an artistic endeavour. Utilising lacquer and dry lacquer techniques acquired in cultural property restoration, he creates animal sculptures based on thorough research. He holds and participates in both solo and group exhibitions including a solo exhibition “Animals and Stories – Shunsuke Osone Exhibition of Kanshitsu Sculptures” at the Art Museum and Library Ota in 2023.
