Pre-event of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2003.

On May 18, 2002, one million petals fell on the banks of the Shinano River. Released from a helicopter that appeared with a roar, the petals gradually transformed from black dots into petals that gained color and fell with the rain. This project began with the artist’s desire to realize his long-held dream in the Echigo-Tsumari region. Volunteers and the artist picked up 200,000 tulips that would otherwise have been picked and discarded to fatten the bulbs. Turning their faces to the rainy sky, they were covered with rain and fleshy petals. The dream collaboration of Nakagawa Yukio, an ikebana artist who continues on the path of the avant-garde, and Ohno Kazuo, an avant-garde butoh dancer, was realized.
