About the artwork

A “rhythmicalm” video work was developed by extracting, as a “dance,” the movement of rice ears from the scenery of rice fields made by human hands. “Rhythmicalm” is a word coined by the artist by connecting “rhythmical” and “calm.” “I met local people who said to me, ‘everything about us is present here.’ It was a sound more joyful than anything else.” (Chiyuki Kojima) In the center of Matsudai town, surrounded by rice fields, a new rice field was born.
