About the artwork

The community of Okura, on a mountain slope in the space between two tunnels. At present, it is home to one old man and one dog called Hana. The area is dotted with empty houses, unused through the passage of over ten years. The artist, in consultation with the buildings’ owners, used eleven such abandoned houses to transform the village itself into a work of art. In the evening, light overflows from the windows, flickering repeatedly. The appearance and disappearance of the buildings within the surrounding scenery casts a searching light on the existence of human, home and community.
