About the artwork

At the Snow Art Project, held in February 2009, the artist, with the residents of Kaino district made huge kaki-gori (shaved ice) mountains that they covered with real sweetening syrup. One mountain towered over the heads of adults at three meters high. Life in this heavy snow country is filled with hard toil, but the exhibit was able to provide a fun and playful respite. At the Triennial, pictures and video were shown of the winter’s event. In the venue, kaki-gori was served to the perspiring visitors, making the exhibit a mid-summer oasis along the route traveled to see the other artwork. It gained popularity as a “delicious exhibit.”
