About the artwork

In 2003, the people of Funayama Village and the artist carried out a project to take the handprints of nearly all villagers. This year, the ideas, techniques, and motivation of the village people were fired up, as they actively engaged in preparatory work, collecting materials, installation work, and publicity, and it became a collaborative work to try to achieve a scale beyond the initial plan. The dinner party to celebrate the completion of the work was joined by everybody, from children to the elderly, making it a lively feast unlike any seen in recent years.
