About the artwork

The sound pipes stretch deep into the earth and high into the air. With one ear, the visitor hears the sounds of the earth, with the other the sounds of the sky. Placed in the middle of terraced fields and reached by winding path that runs between them, this observatory resembles a jungle gym, encouraging visitors to climb in and press their ears to the pipes.
