About the artwork

An installation using an entire empty house. On the ground floor, cut off from the light of outside, volcanic rock deposits sparkle red and cool. Upstairs,  seven “waku,” tools once used for rice transplanting, are suspended, swaying as they revolve. The window glass is blacked out, and from within the echoing of the rhythmical sound of a bouncing ball, a blue light intermittently illuminates the farming implements.  In a room visible from the stairs, circular folding screens are arranged,  invoking the arrival of a morning overflowing with mist.  In the innermost room, a red circle floating tin the air finds reflection tin the window to become a sun, conducting light into the dwelling.  In 2012, two stainless steel mirrored surfaces suspended from a 3.5-meter-high T-shaped pole outside an empty house gently sway in the wind, reflecting the surrounding landscape.
