About the artwork

Being “enraptured by this very special house,” the artist aimed to let the house tell its story. As a way to pose questions to it, the artist placed various items around the house — traditional sandals, a swing taken from the stories of the three sisters who once lived there, toy animals she had made, gold foil, and an antenna she had made for Yomogihira village in 2003. “The house has its own history. I am a visitor here as you are.” (Maaria Wirkkala)
