About the artwork

The Shapes of Time Flowing Equally in Urban and Rural Areas
This new collaborative work features two artists from Hong Kong: Matthew, who specialises in working with natural materials, and Cordelia, who explores the connection between humans and nature using everyday materials. Immersed in the environment of Echigo-Tsumari, the duo deepens their understanding of the local natural landscape and farming culture, crafting works from an urban perspective. For instance, they fashion landscapes using recycled paper sourced from Hong Kong waste, alongside presenting animations portraying nature and utilising soil and farming tools in their creations. “Though distinct in their settings, both urban and rural areas coexist beneath the same sky, where time and nature flow in parallel,” remarks the artists. This exhibition offers a reflection on the diverse perspectives of each locale.
