About the artwork

We had two primary objectives: The first was communication with local people. We visited five families who applied to participate in our project, discussed with them the tableware they would order, made and delivered the finished goods, and finally had tea or meals with those families, using the tableware. The second objective was to interact with visitors to the Triennial: We took orders from Triennial visitors for the two weeks while we were there or exchanged our tableware for something the visitors had brought with them. We shaped clay into ceramic tableware tailored to indivisuals’ desires; people ordered tableware designed to meet their specific needs and then used it after delivery. The project flow was designed to create relationships that might later move in many directions. The project proceeded by pondering the importance of human relationships.
