As a new initiative, the Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET will hold a series of special exhibitions with guest curators starting this term. The first exhibition will be held from July 1 (Sat) with the artist collective “KATAKISHI” and the guest curator, Sawaragi Noi.
≫Exhibition: Shop KATAKISHI in Tokamachi Branch & Dormant Data GP 2022-2023 Archive Exhibition
In conjunction with the exhibition, a special traveling business edition of the “Dormant Data GP Hokushinetsu Cup 2023” will be held on August 12 during the exhibition period, where data that only you know exists, such as photos buried in your smartphone, will compete against each other. Entry is free of charge for everyone. Why don’t you listen to the voice of data lying in a corner of your hard disk or smartphone and witness the reversal of “Dormant Data”?
What is “Dormant Data”?
Data in general that has not been made public, that is not planned to be shown to anyone, and whose existence is known only to you, is tentatively called “Dormant Data” by KATAKISHI. It must be something that you yourself generated, not something you found.
Rigorous judging by the jury and guests at the event.
Aggregate announcement
KATAKISHI
KATAKISHI is a “material store” formed in Tokyo in 2017 by Arawatari Iwao, Unno Rintaro, and Takamisawa Shunsuke. The number of participating artists changes for each project, but in 2019, Takahashi Pig iron will leave the store, and as of 2023, the core group consists of nine members including Tanaka Kantaro, Oyama Hiho, Shishikura Shinobu, Suzuki Yudai, Oka Chiho, and Mizushima Yume. With being a “store” at its core, it is attempting to establish a unique survival strategy that does not depend on the existing economic system of the art scene.

Sawaragi began critiquing art at the end of the 1980s. His numerous publications include “Simulationism” (expanded edition, Chikuma Gakugei Bunko), “Japan, Contemporary Art” (Shinchosha), “War and Expo”, “Post Art Theory” (25th Yoshida Hidekazu Award), and “Shin Bijutsu Ron” (Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize 2009, above, Bijutsu Publishing).
