Tatsuo Kawaguchi

Kawaguchi is one of the most established artists in Japan since his early career began in the 1960s. He has been creating artworks questioning visible and invisible and revelling their relationship. Kawaguchi’s artworks, whether visible or invisible, express the existence of materiality, time, space and life and death of a thing.

Yukihisa Isobe Memorial Echigo Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum［SoKo］

This museum was born from the aspiration of establishing a facility in Echigo-Tsumari that would serve as both warehouses of storing artworks as well as a museum of presenting these works. There are a significant number of abandoned houses and closed school in the region and some of them have been turned into a museum or gallery in conjunction with Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Kiyotsu Warehouse Museum was renovated and launched as a museum in 2015 in the gymnasium space of a former Kiyotsukyo Elementary School and hosted an opening exhibition, “Four artists: materials and hands featuring Noriyuki Haraguchi, Shigeo Toya, Toshikatsu Endo, and Noe Aoki in summer 2016. Since then the museum has presented large-scale exhibitions and transformed itself into a museum featuring artworks of Yukihisa Isobe who inspired Echigo-Tsumari since its foundation in summer 2018. The reason why we call this old school as “soko” (meaning warehouse) shows our aspiration to introduce and present wonderful works which are unveiled and stored in the space.
