Australia House Autumn Program 2019

Summary

One-day special tour to experience artwork and meet the artist and locals at Australia House

November is a month when people in Urada enjoys autumn days after having completed harvest and before preparing for a long winter.
We are pleased to invite you to join Autumn Gathering at Australia House to meet the artist and locals and enjoy late autumn in Satoyama landscape. The tour begins with visiting artworks in Urada area in Matsunoyama followed by lunch to taste freshly harvested rice and performance of Urada Taiko (drum). The tour concludes with working together to get the Australia House ready for winter by putting up snow protection around the building.
Elena Knox, an artist participating in the residency program this autumn will also join the gathering.

Schedule *10:00 Meet at Matsudai station
①10:10 Visiting artworks in Urada area, Matsunoyama on micro-bus. Visit “Dream House” by Marina Abramovic → Enjoy autumn leaves in Daigonji Kogen from the bus window
②11:30 Stop at Australia House, visit an exhibition
③12:00 Lunch (Onigiri and mushroom soup, pickled vegetables) at garden and terrace at Australia House
④12:30 Urada taiko (drum) performance
⑤13:15 Putting snow protection around Australia House (till 15:00)
*15:10 Depart Australia House to Matsudai station
*15:30 Tour completes at Matsudai station
*The program may be altered due to the weather and traffic conditions.
*Please come in outfits that are easy to work on the house. Please bring gloves, towels and other things you think are necessaries.
Price JPY3,000 (including return transportation from Matsudai station, admissions to artworks, lunch)
*You may like to join to see the Australia House and/or lunch. (Admission JPY500 / Lunch JPY1,000)
<Hoe to pay>For tour participant: Please pay by cash at Matsudai station on the day of the tour.
For those who join from Australia House and lunch: Please pay at Australia House

Artist profile

Elena Knox

Profile:
Currently based in Tokyo and advancing her research at Watanabe Lab, Waseda University. She creates artworks across diverse media and displines including digital media, performance, scuplture, sound, music and installation. She amplifies human impulses to totemism, idolatry, and fetishism, by which we attempt to commune with parahuman phenomena,​ and to push back against our ultimate loneliness in the galaxy. ​During her residency at Australia House, she will create an artwork which refers to Japanese robot, draws on the experiecne of landscape and relates to an expedition to the North Pole.
