BankART1929 was launched in 2004 as a leading project which contributes to the creative city design set out by the Yokohama-city government. The creative city design was to utilise historical buildings and port facilities in the city for culture and art transform them into the places where revitalisation of the heart of the city begin. Activities happening at BankART range from art, architecture, performance to music. After moving its base from one place to the other for several times, it currently uses “BankART KAIKO” at Bashamichi station on Yokohama Minatomirai Line and “BankART station” at Shintakashima station as its base. BankART runs AIR program, school, café & pub and shop while also actively provides other services such as planning contents, organising, co-ordinating and facilitating events. It also proactively engage with collaborative program with community and networking with other cities and countries both within and outside Japan.
