This colorful house stands out in the middle of the village. Originally a two-story barn, it has now been painted with more than one thousand colors. The old farm equipment occupying the second floor was left untouched, allowing one to recapture a sense of the building when the machinery was in use. For this production, the cooperation of the neighbors was gained, and scaffolding was erected to paint the building from the roof down. During the exhibition, workshops for vegetable and plant dyeing were held in the building every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Butterbur and mugwort growing in the area were used to prepare the dye for coloring silk cloth. In the past silk weaving was an important industry in Tokamachi.
