About the artwork

In a private house that is still being used, the artist placed farming implements molded from plaster. Various tools are lined up: rice field tools and a basket for cradling babies that have been used over time and transformed to fit the shapes of users’ hands. Silent figures in white plaster suggest the deep snow that binds the villages and the lives of the snow country. During the Triennial, the house owner said, “I have lost living space in my house,” but he welcomed the visitors with a happy smile and with stories about the farming tools and the old days.
