About the artwork

With the sound of a shutter clicking, an image appears at the bottom of the deep hole. One after another, still images of four seasons are projected. This is a collection of photos taken by the artist as he wandered around Echigo-Tsumari. Eighty shots of the landscape draw in visitors from the darkness. The hole is inside a triangular tin hut. Inside, there is an underground space that the artist dug up. Along the sides, bare layers of earth show, a testament to the years of its existence. Images of the present day Echigo-Tsumari moves faintly across and overlap on the surface of the soil, which could have been the ground surface back in the ancient times.
