About the artwork

The lenses attached to one wall of the serpentine camera obscura (darkened room) cast an inverted image of the outside scene on another interior wall. It is amusing to be in the dark and see cars and people in motion, upside down. Sato also attached a lens on the roof of the passenger compartment in a pedicab; with curtains drawn to darken the compartment, the same camera obscura effect was available to passengers whom one conducted around the Triennial Center.
