About the artwork

Tsumari has many closed factories and retail shops. Many people in Bangladesh, the artist’s homeland, have migrated to Europe or the United States. When the artist was a child, mothers in his neighborhood made paper planes and launched them into the sky, singing, “In the future my sons will go to the West to study and establish a career.” The artist made 400 wooden planes in the hope that planes would arrive in Tsumari carrying many people so that the region would become lively. His planes symbolize people coming from all over the world.
