About the artwork

The artist began creating houses from recycled milk cartons after experiencing the Hanshin Earthquake. Following the disastrous earthquake, she says that she looked up to the sky, felt the eyes of a great being watching over her, and felt like she was “surrounded, protected by an invisible, great thing.” The white space surrounded by milk carton gently wrapped the visitors. During the production, children also came to help between classes, and the exhibit was surrounded by local people.
