About the artwork

The butterfly figures covering the room’s ceiling, were cut from butterfly reference books. By cutting the figures out of the pages in the reference books, each butterfly is severed from the names given to them. Each butterfly can be seen as an icon of an opened book, so from one reference book numerous small books spread out like a spectrum. With the vertically elevated point of view, amazement surfaces towards the act of naming and classifying things. On the tables, the illustrated butterfly reference books that the butterfly figures were cut out of were placed for viewing.
