About the artwork

We experienced and saw many new things in the Triennial: the natural beauty of Echigo-Tsumari, the children of the region, many artists and their works. The theme of our project was to enhance our contact with the soil, and, by using it as a working material, to transform children’s memories into objects d’art. Our most unforgettable memory is that our worries and anxieties during the preparation phase gave way to excitement as, on the day of the workshop, the students from our laboratories found themselves on the same wavelength, their activities resonated with each other, and the project turned out to be more vivid and lively than we had hoped. One of the students pointed out that this transformation was a “mix up,” and indeed we were all amazed by how rapidly things developed amidst rapid change. We learned something important through this experience.
