About the artwork

The artist visited homes in the village to collect photos from the albums of local people. He also created a triangle-shaped space taken from the typical shape of warehouse in local area and covered the inside with mirrors. This space became a “Space of Dreams” that allowed the projection of photos on the back screen. The scenes of village life since the beginning of the last century were reflected in the mirrors, which functioned like a kaleidoscope. Seeing the completion of the work, the local people said that they realized anew that they were Japanese, and this comment greatly pleased the artist.
