I thougt of exploring the attractions of the Echigo-Tsumari region over a period of ten years through workshops with children. This plan, which started with the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2000, began with developing a series of message transporting game workshops using binoculars and handmade watchtowers. Play offers a wonderful opportunity to use one’s ability to search and develop, and this, I feel, is what is important in the program. This time, I developed a game connecting roofs of the buildings in Tokamachi, with the aim of discovering something new about the city by viewing it from a different perspective. For the exhibition, a miniature of Tokamachi was installed in a room of a building that gives a view of the whole downtown area, allowing visitors to trace the experience of the workshop.
