About the artwork

Creating this work using nothing but shock absorbent packing material and string was a challenge both in scale and in how the materials were to be assembled. Seeing the materials in a fresh new way stimulated our thinking. Piling up materials to form a dome suggested that we were building something like an insect net—or a Kamakura, a snow house for people who live in the snow country. Since the materials we used need only be dampened slightly to adhere to each other, the workshop was fun for people of all ages. Since the materials are, moreover, made of corn and recyclable, they intensified our consciousness of the natural environment.
