About the artwork

Designs adapted from kimono and traditional everyday objects of the region were embroidered on Australian wool. The red tapestries were hung on haze (racks used for drying rice), and shone brightly in the blue sky, waving in the satoyamabreeze. The process of hanging the red tapestries from the top of tall ladders was done with the help of the local people who were acustomed to working with the haze.
