About the artwork

Sound and soul. Bringing staggering dynamism

Since 2003, the creative Wadaiko group ZA ONDEKOZA has made connections to local communities through participation in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Based on their original theory of “running and music being one, reflecting the drama and energy of life,” they have been active on the theme of coexistence with contemporary art and nature. What they aim for in this performance is to “convey feelings through the vibrations inherent in the mind and body.” With two performances, each welcoming guest performers, they challenge new expressions with the themes of “Nisshinnkon” at the Tsumari Shrine and “Hakuchi” at the Matsudai Nohbutai that means  a neologism symbolising welcoming and bidding farewell to the souls of the deceased ancestors during Bon Festival. They showcase a what-can-be-called culmination of performances resonating with the souls of the mind and body.
