About the artwork

An indispensable ingredient in the lives of the people of Southeast Asia, the banana has also given rise to the proverb found throughout this area of tropical agruculture: “Under the banana leaf, everyone is equal.” This project still underway aims to place sculptures in the shape of banana leaves at a variety of locations. Made of glass, these banana-leaf sculptures are constructed at a workshiop for elementary school students. The work shown here, which hangs from the roof of Matsudai Station, blesses all who pass by.
