About the artwork

Upon seeing the site of an abandoned restaurant, the artist thought about the chairs that had once been used there and thought it would be nice to put chairs back in the center of the space again. The chairs he chose were made by Thonet, a German manufacturer of furniture that has been in business since the 19th century. The empty shop transformed itself into a showroom, exhibiting “No. 14” chairs, which are known as an “eternal design” by Thonet, who made numerous accomplishments in the history of contemporary design. The artist connected the chairs with thin rattan and attempted to revive the memory of the bonds woven by people in the restaurant among the ripples of their cheerful conversation.
