About the artwork

A house that received damage in the Mid-Niigata earthquake of 2004, was chosen. In the room with walls painted white, light spreads and from corner to corner ceramic vine sways in the air. The landscape drawn on the flowers and leaves are scenery from the Nakazato district where its 50 residents were asked which places were the most memorable. The artist went to the places that were mentioned and drew the scenery on the leaves and flowers. “These scenes are important landmarks for the people of Nakazato, and the vine conveys the image of wind and water currents, where these memories are connected and float ephemerally, powerfully.” (Takahashi Haruki)
