About the artwork

“The actual winter of Tsumari was far beyond my imagination and even made me frightened. Creating a place where people can get together, have even a little hope during the harsh winter and recall the memory of fresh greens; that is how this project began.” (Koichi Sakao) The artist traced the signs of everyday life in the village and discovered beauty in the living itself. Frottage made with leaves by all the visitors and villagers spread up to the ceiling. The daily guidance and talk by the locals also became a popular feature.
