About the artwork

This project cast a spotlight on an old woman living in a depopulated mountain village. The artist retraced an old passage the woman took on her first journey to the village, across mountains and valleys, to become a bride, and used photographs to recreate the scene that the woman might have seen back then along her bridal road. “During the snowy winter days, among the aromatic vapor from the potatoes simmering in a pot on the stove, I listened to her stories of the old times. It was truly, such a deeply heart-warming experience.” (Minako Saitoh)
