Information

About the artwork

A large grass meadow for a picnic. Many benches with long bamboo attached were fixed in place. From a distance the entire structure looks like a house. The long poles, seeming to grow out of the earth, sway coolly in the wind. A place of rest between visiting exhibits, a salon for socializing, or a veranda from where one can watch the sunset. It became a comfortable place for many people. During the exhibition, the kusamura became the venue for an electone concert, a place to enjoy refreshments like chimaki (rice steamed in bamboo leaves) and cold barley tea, and where artists and villagers socialized with the many visitors.
