About the artwork

An exhibit held at the Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science. The artist, Masashi Kimura, is a science illustrator. His insect and medical illustrations are meant to be scientific record rather than works of art. In this exhibit, Kimura collaborated with students of the department of design at Nihon University College of Art to create 3-dimensional works of imaginary Chimera insects. Strange insects embodying both Kimura’s keen eye for detail and the students’ bold creativity seemed to fly about the room.
